Back to Basics: Musings on successful projects and North West branch committee election results 2017/18.

The North West branch held its Annual General meeting (AGM) on 17^th May 2017 at the Suites Hotel in Knowsley. The branch was delighted to share the evening with presenter Andrew Ramwell, Managing Director of Know and Do Ltd, who presented “Back to Basics: Musings on successful projects”.

The AGM process was hosted by Phil Hardy as the outgoing Chairman and 28 voting members were present plus two non-voting.

There were 13 nominees for the 2017/18 Committee and all were elected by the floor unanimously:

Susan Clarke, Masoud Gaffarian Asl, Rufus Gardiner, Phil Hardy, Kathryn Jones, Kevin Kane, Therese Lawlor-Wright, Claire Pallett, Richard Preston, Michael Scully, Graham Woodward, Stewart Wragg, Andrew Wright.

The above were proposed by Keith Middleton and seconded by William McClarty.

Andrew spent 15 years working in academia where became increasingly frustrated with the over-complicating of processes and systems used by project professionals across broad health and social care issues. He began to experiment; condensing these models down to the fundamentals.

Projects have at their heart people and process; although processes may be standardised, people’s perspectives can vary widely. This variance can sometimes derail projects altogether. Andrew used his experience to highlight the risks posed to projects by project managers that ignore or misunderstand basic steps in implementation, causing issues further down the project lifespan.

Andrew concluded the evening by explaining the two key models his organisation uses to help clients outline and frame their understanding of a project in its conception and latterly to keep them on track through the project life-cycle.
