Knowledge sharing case study presentations available
The Knowledge SIG were pleased to be able to share three case studies from very different organisations with delegates at their AGM event on 25th June in London.
The first presentation was from Micheal Norton on the topic of social collaboration tools and how they have changed the way we collaborate in the public sector.
Knowledge sharing in the public sector has dramatically changed over the last 10 years through the use of communities of practice and incorporating social collaboration tools. Communities are where the real answers lie and result in huge benefits to the people who join and participate. With the future of work becoming more collaborative the key skills of community management will become more important to getting the job done.
Michael's slides are available below:
The second presentation was from Adrian Malone of Atkins. Adrian presented a case study entitled "Agile and knowledge management: sprints, scrums, failing fast and the power of Trojan Mice"
What happens when the methods of Agile are applied to knowledge management? Can Agile help to build a culture of curiosity and experimentation, to fail fast and adapt in complex project environments? Drawing on recent global knowledge management projects at Atkins we will look at how focused incremental change can help to develop a knowledge sharing culture.
Adrian's slides can be found below:
The third and final presentation came from Andy Wall of United Utilities and addressed a systematic approach to sharing knowledge across projects.
As pressure increases to deliver projects on time, on budget and to meet ever exacting standards it’s never been a more important to leverage what we already know. On an individual basis it can be difficult to remember and apply everything we know or we’ve ever learned, so imagine multiplying that problem across a large organisation undertaking thousands of projects. Drawing on the experience of the last 5 year Capital Program (AMP5) this presentation will outline the systematic approach being developed by United Utilities to support the re-use of knowledge across projects that will deliver benefits across the whole asset lifecycle.
Andy's slides are available below:
Delegates heard from all three presenters and then broke out in to small discussion groups, facilitated by our three presenters to discuss each case study in turn. Delegates saw the difficulties involved in standardising knowledge management and how adaptable knowledge management must be to suit all types of project.
Before the presentations began the Knowledge SIG held their AGM meeting.
Judy Payne, Chair of the Knowledge SIG presented the below slides:
