National Audit Office Director "Learn from past experiences" - [Video]

Geraldine Barker, director at the National Audit Office and audit manager Bridget Jackson spoke about big project myths at the sold out APM Project Management Conference 2015 sponsored by 20|20 Business Insight. 

They focussed on lessons from major rail infrastructure programmes and looked at the myth that the NAO only reports when things go wrong and that lessons aren’t learnt.

Geraldine explained that “it’s important for programme sponsors to learn from their past experiences as much as it is for programme managers and also that it's just to encourage people to think about their own experiences and to draw on those from others and not to go and try and reinvent the wheel.”

Geraldine and Bridget were joined by Cliff Jones, senior policy and performance manager for ProCure21+, Department of Health, who spoke about using the framework to deliver successful outcomes on projects.

Cliff explained that it’s important for people to “fully understand and apply the process and procedures, don’t try and take short cuts as those are typically the areas that we have problems on [in] projects.”

He went on to say that “you deliver successful outcomes by collaborating and everybody has to participate in a project, not just the people at the top of the supply chain”
