Jason Dalrymple, senior project manager at NATS spoke about the importance of people to projects at the APM Project Management Conference 2015 sponsored by 20|20 Business Insight.

Using NATS and Nav Canada’s coast project as an example, Jason explained that “we took a conscious effort to engage people and put them at the heart of the project right from the very start.”

This is because he believes that delivery of a project is down to people as they “will truly deliver your projects and generate project success.”

Jason was joined in the delivery myth stream by Will Bentley, programme control director at High Speed 2 (HS2). He discussed the myth of the project management office (PMO) with the sold-out audience using the HS2 project as an example.

Will believes that “Britain has to rebalance itself and become a knowledge economy” and that the PMO shouldn’t be viewed as a support function. He felt that the PMO should be at the centre of a project and to do so “they have to own the data, they have to be strategy aligned and deliver the strategies for the organisation”.

A selection of the full presentations recorded at the award-winning conference is available to view until 1st July on the APM website courtesy of the PM Channel.
