Janet Randell, agile coach at Aviva, led the May meeting in Norwich. Janet guided us through Aviva’s journey from Waterfall as the norm to running the vast majority of it’s change book of work on an agile basis.

She explained why the decision had been made to adopt agile as the default methodology and how the speed  of delivery of projects and the management of costs has changed dramatically now the company is able to use agile in a mature manner. The concept of starting simple and delivering fast was explained and the value of collaboration explored. Janet was keen to remove some of the agile myths such as “agile does not involve planning” and added in some amusing stories of how people learn to adjust their thinking over time. Her honest appraisal about the tough times and the great times added realism to the talk which was enjoyed by all.

Janet's presentation can be viewed below.
