Quiz night: Project management
Having originally planned for a speaker from another international institute, the Hong Kong branch March event seemed to be under control and was coming together nicely. However what can a project team do when things start to take a turn for the worse? Due to the unforeseen withdrawal of our speaker with only a week to go until the scheduled event date we were left with an empty 'slot' in our usually varied and successful events calendar.
Following a couple of enquiries to try and pin down another speaker we found that it was simply too late notice for everyone we tried. We decided that "the show must go on" as our local members and guests have become accustomed to our monthly events on various aspects of project management which provide valuable learning points as well as CPD (continuing professional development) hours.
The committee swiftly pulled together a project management themed quiz night in place of the usual presentation. In order to provide the regular networking opportunity to our members (as well as a bit of light relief from PowerPoint!) Comprising six subject rounds of ten questions each, ideally with a mix of team members with different PM skills, the main purpose of the HK branch quiz night was to test the PM knowledge of APM members, colleagues and friends.
Unfortunately, as the quiz was announced at such short notice, there was a lack of participants. There was a strong committee presence but our total numbers were not enough to form any teams. Under these circumstances, the branch committee were faced with no option but to cancel the quiz night.
We apologise to those members who did turn up to participate and hope to see you at our next event on 21st April where we have invited Dr Jon Broome and John Rayner to run a session on NEC3 contracts. Presentation slides from APM events in Hong Kong and all the UK branches can be found in our Slideshare archive.
