Stakeholder engagement and benefits realisation event, 19th May 2016

The APM Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire Branch presented on May 19th  a talk by Ben Pinches entitled ‘Stakeholder Engagement and Benefits Realisation’ The purpose of the event was  to focus upon the often difficult areas of Stakeholder engagement and benefits realisation. 

Ben began by discussing one of his early research projects into benefits realisation, its findings and in particular, the need for comprehensive stakeholder identification and the need for constant engagement throughout the project. A slide of the resulting mind mapping showing  the wide range of stakeholders, their influences, behaviours and outcomes provided a clear illustration of how important the need for this work at the initiation stage. 

An interactive exercise regarding the planning for a rail link was used to identify the way that alternative approaches can have an impact upon benefits and stakeholder attitudes provided further evidence of the engagement importance.

Benedict Pinches is Managing Director and founder of Oxford Major Programmes; a company dedicated to revolutionising the management of major projects and programmes. The company develop software that combines elements of social media, benefits tracking and a holistic approach to status reporting in order to produce innovative visualisations to aid the decision-making of programme directors and sponsors. He is involved in a number of research projects with world leading academics from Oxford University, and advises Oxford University Press on their global change initiatives.

Around thirty five members and guests attended the presentation at The Source Academy Sheffield, a popular and convenient venue for many APM events
