The Universal Credit has been issued across 17 sites in Britain and has started taking new claims.

This means the new benefit scheme is now available in over 70% of all jobcentres across the country and from today all new single jobseekers can claim at the jobcentres below.

The new system is designed to ensure that it is better to be in work than on welfare and from now this means they can receive support from staff at jobcentres both in and out of work.

Single jobseekers will be able to claim Universal Credit in these jobcentres below:

  • Livingston
  • Aberdeen Ebury House
  • Aylesbury
  • Bathgate
  • High Wycombe
  • Broxburn
  • Buckie
  • Chesham
  • West Bromwich
  • Elgin
  • Forres
  • Ipswich
  • Ipswich ‘MyGo’ Hub
  • Milton Keynes
  • Oldbury
  • Smethwick
  • Tipton

Soon Universal Credit will replace 6 existing benefit types: Working Tax Credit, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income Support, Employment and Support Allowance, Child Tax Credits and Housing Benefit.

To ensure effective roll out of the Universal Credit programme a recent report highlighted a number of important issues that need to be addressed.
